#GambiaDecides2021

By Dabakh Malick

Let’s start this piece with a quote by former leader of Burkina Faso Capt Thomas Sankara: “Our REVOLUTION is not a PUBLIC SPEAKING tournament. Our REVOLUTION is not a BATTLE of FINE PHRASES. Our REVOLUTION is not SIMPLY for SPOUTING SLOGANS that are NO more than SIGNALS used by MANIPULATORS trying to use them as CATCHWORDS, as a FOIL for their OWN display. Our REVOLUTION is, and SHOULD continue to be, the COLLECTIVE effort of REVOLUTIONARIES to TRANSFORM REALITY, to IMPROVE the CONCRETE SITUATION of the MASSES of our people.” It’s a statement that’s worth pondering over since it’s pertinent to our reality as a nation.

December 4th will be another important date in the political life of The Gambia. Certainly for various reasons but the most obvious is that it is the date upon which presidential elections will be held for the first time post-Jammeh era.

Elections are integral part of a democratic process. Yet, the December election is a massive event. For the first time in our nation’s history, we are having political pluralism of this magnitude – where you have 18 registered political parties and a number of aspiring independent candidates. And so this election is going to be a litmus test for the many political parties and independent candidates we have. It’s their political viability that stands to be tested.

The million dollars question in the minds of most Gambians is: who is going to go home with the bragging rights? Your guess is as good as mine. But one can safely say the election will be a two-horse race, a race between NPP and UDP. You will have President Adama Barrow on the one hand and Lawyer Ousainou A.N.M Darboe on the other.

But still, any wise person would say a day is too much to risk in politics. A lot could happen or change between now and December, events that could redefine the race. And so until then, your guess is as good as mine.

PDOIS faces a massive challenge in terms of winning but it’s my view the party would make significant gains due to the roles the party played in building the coalition in the 2016 election, the political impasse but also the party’s consistent record in standing up for the interest of the ordinary man when it mattered most. For a very long time, I began seeing the party’s message resonating with not only the educated class but also the common Joe of the everyday Gambian.

And then you have CA. Being a new party with a former political science lecturer at the University of the Gambia as leader, the party can only use 2021 to experiment and gather experience in preparation for 2026.

If you ask me about NRP, NCP, PPP and GPDP, these parties are most likely throwing their weight behind NPP/Barrow. And having at the back of their minds that the political careers of their leaders are almost over including the issue of age on the part of these leaders, their best shot is to form an Alliance to be able to save face.

Let’s then turn to GMC. This is a party that’s a one-man party. Its leader Mai Fatty is more active on social media than his party activities. Will the party put up a candidate  for 2021 at all? I believe they will form Alliance and that is way better for them than putting up a candidate who will end up losing the deposit because they can’t score 5% of the votes cast.

For GDC and its flag bearer Mama Kandeh, I think they’re in trouble. They impressed in 2016 but it’s my prediction they will not be able to replicate their performance in 2016. GDC was able to do so well in 2016 for various reasons. For example, the party was new and many APRC and NRP supporters lost hope in their parties and voted for Mama. These are voters who could not vote for the Coalition’s candidate. A lot has happened in the past four years that continue to change the political fortunes of GDC. GDC is no longer the 2016 power party it once was and I doubt if they will play second fiddle to any candidate. I believe it will be hard for GDC to have a Coalition agreement in which Mama isn’t the flag bearer. Their best shot is for them to try get APRC since GDC is more like the prodigal son coming home.

With the Independent Candidates, for the first time I am seeing these many people who plan to run on an independent ticket but the truth is I think many are just playing to the hype of election year but even if they finally made it on the list, all of them will lose their deposit for not being able to pull 5% and I would be surprised if the performance of all of them combined isn’t up to that mark.

To close, this election will define the future of our nation. The best we can do is to register those who attain the right age, get involved by making sure the right person is chosen.

Do it for The Gambia And VOTE for your FUTURE!

Jammeh’s return to Gambia: Audio gets circulated

0

Gambians online have been reacting to an audio of former President Yahya Jammeh where he is heard speaking on various issues including his return to the country.

The audio shared on the social media network Facebook and elsewhere in past days has sparked fresh chatter over whether the former leader should return to the country.

But The Fatu Network has confirmed the audio is the same as the audio the former president shared with his supporters last year, as they prepared to protest against his exile.

Abaya-wearing thieves plead guilty to their crime, jail to be their fate if they can’t pay fine

0

Two women wearing veils and the Muslim Abaya dress who stole a bag containing up to D200,000 at a store at Serrekunda Market have pleaded guilty to their crime.

Principal Magistrate Isatou Janneh-Njie of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Monday convicted and sentenced Kumba Secka and Mai Baldeh to pay a fine of D25,000 each in default to serve six months imprisonment for conspiracy, and D25,000 each in default to serve six months in prison for stealing, The Point reported on Tuesday.

They were ordered to pay a compensation of D171,695 in default to serve two years imprisonment. This amount should be paid in three months from the 30th May to 30th July, 2021, failure which the whole amount will become due, and will serve two years, The Point said.

The Fatu Network broke the news of two women entering a store in Serrekunda and stealing money.

Kumba Secka and Mai Baldeh entered the fabric store on April 25 where the latter distracted the store owner Ousainou Samateh as the former who sat on a chair took out a green bag filled with money from a black bag. They then left the store.

Abaya-wearing thieves: Store owner clarifies case of third woman security cameras caught

By Fatou Camara II

A family store that became a subject of much talk after its security cameras caught two abaya-wearing women shoplifting has clarified the non-involvement of a third woman.

CCTV footage showed a third woman amid claims she was involved. The woman was shocked by the claims and has since reached out to the store for clarification and apology.

The shopkeeper Alieu told The Fatu Network: “We run this boutique and we are really sad that things turned this way and that is why we want to stand by Fatoumatta Jaiteh to help clear her innocence.

“Two women involved in the act made it clear that they do not know Fatoumatta Jaiteh and even The Fatu Network footage and the official Facebook page of our boutique did not include Fatoumatta. So how people go about distorting the footage is worrisome.”

The woman herself told The Fatu Network she fell victim of distorted information as many mistook her to be an accomplice in the act.

“I was at home when people started sending me cropped pictures and videos of myself seen on the CCTV footages. In the video it appears as if I am part of the thieves which is not correct. I approached my husband with panic and confusion. This is how we came to the Boutique for the Boutique owner to help us clear the air,” she said.

Police have since identified the two women involved as Kumba Secka and Mai Baldeh.

Facebook’s ban on Trump remains, but company must review the matter

0

The Facebook and Instagram Oversight Board has upheld Facebook’s decision to ban former U.S. President Donald Trump from posting content on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.

However, in a statement, the board however said that “it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension.” The board instructed the company to review the matter within six months, possibly opening the door to Trump’s return.

Facebook’s normal penalties include removing the violating content, imposing a time-bound period of suspension, or permanently disabling the page and account.

Trump was banned from Facebook in January after the Capitol Hill riots. (CGTN Africa)

Lamin Bojang calls President Barrow clueless as ex-general seeks to become president

0

Retired General Lamin Bojang has launched a scathing attack on President Adama Barrow calling him ‘clueless’ and blaming him for the country’s current problems.

“The current president in this country is clueless. Because he has never had any experience in this country. He has no work experience, he has no job experience. Sometimes smart people can learn on the job. So for him, he has no job experience, he is not learning on the job, that’s why Gambia is sinking every day,” Gen Bojang told reporters at the IEC on Monday as his party got registered.

Bojang stated his party, the Alliance for National Re-orientation and Development will provide effective leadership for the country if it assumes power.

25-year-old Malian woman safely gives birth to nine babies

0

A Malian woman gave birth to nonuplets in Morocco on Tuesday and all nine babies are “doing well”, according to a statement from the Mali Health Ministry.

Anadolu Agency reports that Halima Cisse, 25, delivered five girls and four boys.

According to the evaluation of doctors both in Mali and Morocco, Cisse was initially expected to have septuplets but gave birth by cesarean section to nonuplets, shocking the doctors, who had not noticed another two siblings during ultrasounds.

After a two-week medical stay at a hospital in the Malian capital Bamako, the doctors requested specialist care for the rare case of Cisse.

Nonuplets are extremely rare in medical practice.

Judgment in GAP leader’s trial is delayed, sparked by legal bid by politician at the high court

0

By Ousman Jatta

The Kanifing Magistrates Court has delayed judgment in the much talked about trial involving Gambia Action Party leader Musa Ousainou Yali Batchilly.

Batchilly was taken to court by a private individual over money he allegedly owed the person. Judgment was supposed to be made in the case on Tuesday but it has been delayed after an application filed at the high court by Batchilly’s lawyers for a stay of the case.

His lawyers want the high court to put a stop to the court proceedings as their client was not given much time to prepare for the case.

The prosecution however challenged the application filed by the defense counsel saying it was not competent.

“We want this honorable court to refuse the double applications and so we can proceed to judgment,” the prosecution prayed.

The magistrate is expected to make a ruling on the application filed by the defense counsel at the High Court of the Gambia, on Tuesday 26th of May   2020, at 2:00Pm.

The magistrates ruling will determine whether the court will not wait for the High Court’s ruling to pass its ruling on the case.

0

Kebba Lang Fofana has shared a statement with The Fatu Network reacting to his selection as the secretary general of the National People’s Party, Youth Wing.

‘Shock and dismay’: Gambia For All issues statement over President Barrow’s death comments saying its reaction can only be one of shock and dismay

0

Gambia For All has issued a short statement reacting to comments by President Adama Barrow NPP will choose death or shame at the December election.

The president made the comment while meeting with former MPs over the weekend.

GFA said: “Shock and dismay!!! The only fitting reaction to the alleged unpresidential utterances from the Head of State. We are hoping that this is a case of “lost in translation”.

“As it is always the case with this administration, we expect some senior official to come up with further clarification. Because if this continues to be the official position of the president, with all the advantages of incumbency at his disposal, the holding of free and fair elections in December will be at best flawed.

“Even worse, if this declaration persists, it will be viewed historically as another “Six feet deep” moment for the president.”

Sanyang Police Station: New photos show Abubakary Jawara-backed work progressing

0

Work is progressing on the torched Sanyang Police Station, according new photos seen by The Fatu Network.

The people of Sanyang reached out to top businessman Abubakary Jawara for help after the town’s police station got set on fire during violent protests in Sanyang in March.

Jawara then accepted to re-build the police station and a project costing 2.2 million dalasis was then rolled out.

Heartache for NAMs as their 54 million dalasis loan scheme gets blocked by Supreme Court

0

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declared as unlawful a multi-million dalasis loan scheme by the nation’s MPs and called for its scrapping from the 2021 budget, Gambia Participates said in a statement.

“Gambia, today we have saved you D54.4 million. In December 2020, in a joint suit with CRPD we took the National Assembly of the Gambia to court for creating a loan scheme for themselves in the 2021 budget. Today the Supreme Court has declared the action unlawful and called for the removal of the said amount from the 2021 budget,” the statement read.

The nation’s MPs last December came under fire after they borrow themselves taxpayers’ money under the 2021 budget running into millions of dalasis. The proponents insisted the law allowed them to do so, with MP Ya Kumba Jaiteh as initiator.

Two leading CSO groups, Gambia Participates and Centre for Research and Policy Development, then mounted a legal challenge on the decision.

The groups on December 28 filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court seeking the top court to declare that the amendment done by the National Assembly by including a budget line item of D54.4 million is “in contravention of sections 151,152 and 155 of the Constitution and a violation of section 47 of the Public Finance Act, 2014”.

The groups also wanted a declaration that the approval of the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the year 2021 with the inclusion of the sum of D54.4 million as loan to National Assembly Members and staff of the National Assembly service was a ‘usurpation’ of the powers given to the President in section 152 of the Constitution and a violation of clause 70 of the Standing Orders of the National Assembly.

The groups had sued the cleark of the national assembly alongside the auditor general, ministry of finance and the attorney general.

The groups wanted an order directing the Auditor General not to grant approval for the withdrawal of the sum of D54.4 million or any part of it by the National Assembly or the National Assembly Service.

They also wanted an order directing the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs not to pay from the Consolidated Fund or any Fund of the government the sum of D54.4 million or any money at all to the National Assembly members or staff of the National Assembly Service as loan pursuant to the approved estimates of revenue and expenditure of the Government for the year 2021.

Also, they wanted an order severing and striking down the part of the Appropriation Act authorizing the payment of the sum of D54.4 million as loan to the National Assembly Members and staff of the National Assembly Service.

Gambia Participates and Centre for Research and Policy Development also wanted an injunction against the Clerk of the National Assembly and the National Assembly restraining them from raising warrants or preparing payment vouchers or any document that would facilitate the processing of the payment of the sum of D54.4 million or any part of it to the staff of the National Assembly Service and the National Assembly members.

Money for land: Top NPP official Kebba Madi Bojang pays back man’s money after allegedly selling land he never owned to him

0

NPP national youth president Kebba Madi Bojang has returned D100,000 he took from a man in exchange for a 20×20 plot of land in Latriya.

Bojang sold land to Abdullah Jabang last year but Jabang could not get the land as at least two different plots he was showed apparently had owners.

Jabang last month lodged a complaint with police for Bojang to be arrested with the latter later meeting with police at Latriya over the issue.

When The Fatu Network contacted Bojang on Monday, he admitted taking Jabang’s money but insisted it was his conduit who took Jabang to the wrong plots. He then promised to return the man’s money on Tuesday, in a rapid move.

Jabang confirmed receiving his money which was dropped at the police station in Latriya.

“I took him to police two weeks ago and I went with police to his compound but we could not find him there,” Jabang had told The Fatu Network.

Jabang added: “I suffered a lot in getting my money from Kebba. He bullied me countless times. For instance, when I go to Jambur or Mamuda to get back my money, he would say that he was with the president with meet-with-farmers tour or in the State House — bragging that he is too important for this issue while still keeping my money.”

Sacked by UDP, MPs Fatoumatta Jawara and Abdoulie Ceesay land roles in new NPP executive

0

MPs Fatoumatta Jawara and Abdoulie Ceesay have landed key roles in the new National People’s Party executive.

The MPs rode to the national assembly on the wings of UDP but were sacked from the party in 2019. They formed part of eight MPs who gained UDP’s wrath for bromancing with President Barrow, a foe of the party.

The MPs have since settled to life in NPP with two now bagging positions in the party’s new executive put together at the weekend.

Tallinding MPs Fatoumatta Jawara landed the role of female youth wing president while Old Yundum’s Abdoulie Ceesay was tapped for deputy national organizing secretary role.

What does Barrow Understand or Not Understand?

By Madi Jobarteh

It is not only insulting to the citizens but also threatening to national security for Pres. Adama Barrow to allow none other than a leading Dictatorship Denier and Enabler to come to State House to vouch for none other than Tyrant Yaya Jammeh. It is like Pres. Joe Biden of the US inviting an imbecile like Rudy Giuliani to the White House to speak for Donald Trump as a unifier for Americans. I am sure Joe Biden will not spend that night in peace in the White House.

This is simply because, according to their own history there has been no US President ever that has threatened the unity, survival and stability of their republic and democracy more than Donald Trump. In the Gambian context, Yaya Jammeh is worse than Donald Trump because of the blatant and gross human rights violations Jammeh meted out to scores of Gambians with impunity for 22 years. In 2016, just like Trump, Jammeh refused to concede defeat until he was forced out by a foreign military force. It was people like Sam Sarr who defended Jammeh to refuse the verdict of the people and continues to defend Jammeh until today!

But here we are with a President who does not seem to have a basic understanding of history, his role as President and the state of affairs of his country such that he could act in the most insensitive, irresponsible and dangerous manner by inviting Sam Sarr to the State House! This begs the question, what must be going on in the head of Adama Barrow and his technocrats to have the audacity to allow an unapologetic, unconscionable and unpatriotic dictator lover like Samsudeen Sarr to walk into State House to talk about according Yaya Jammeh the status of a former head of state and as a unifier?

Is it that Adama Barrow, as an adult human being, is ignorant of the true history and experience of his own people between 22nd July 1994 and 19th January 2017? Is Pres. Barrow unaware of the fact that until today, Yaya Jammeh remains the greatest threat to our country as he and his desperate supporters continue to deny their crimes, mock their victims and seek to destabilise the Gambia? Has Pres. Barrow forgotten that it was people like Samsudeen Sarr who had vigorously and deliberately aided and abetted Yaya Jammeh to damage every right of our citizens and every rule of our Constitution just to perpetuate one-man rule in this republic? Otherwise, could Adama Barrow ask himself why he still keeps ECOMIG in our country, if not for his fear of Yaya Jammeh and his loyalists!

Clearly Adama Barrow is not unaware of the crimes of Yaya Jammeh and the exceptional role enablers like Sam Sarr played in that national calamity. Why then is Pres. Barrow willing and ready to betray the Gambia by hobnobbing with Yaya Jammeh and his party and enablers in broad daylight? What is Adama Barrow looking for? What does he want to gain such that he would want to lose his soul and destroy the Gambia? For anyone to entertain even slightly the idea that Yaya Jammeh is a unifier of Gambians is indeed insulting and dishonest.

I think all Gambians must now see that the single most dangerous threat to the peace and stability of the Gambia is none other than President Adama Barrow himself. Experts have shown that societies that underwent autocratic rule or violent conflict should engage in a robust transitional justice process if they are to avoid future recurrences of those crimes. The examples of a lack of a robust transitional justice process leading to another round of autocratic rule and conflict are all too many such as the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.

That the Gambia underwent an authoritarian rule for decades is an open secret. In fact, it was precisely because of that, that Mr. Adama Barrow himself and his Government launched a transitional justice program in 2017. Yet even before the TRRC concluded its truth-seeking hearings, we witness how Barrow is so eager to ignore this country’s atrocious past by keeping key Enablers of that regime into his Cabinet and in his party and in strategic positions across his Government.

As if that is just the tip of the iceberg, it is all too clear that Barrow now wants to jump into bed with APRC while seeking to celebrate the Tyrant himself just for power! No wonder he orchestrated the killing of the draft constitution just to perpetuate himself in power indefinitely! If there is anything undeniably and evidently characteristic of Adama Barrow is that he is indeed power hungry. Extremely power hungry for that matter. In his quest to cling onto power, it appears Barrow is ready to continue to betray, sell, undermine and disrespect this republic as he wishes!

That Sam Sarr is a nonentity is clear like the sun at 2pm. He has no value to offer anything to this republic as he has never done so. His life of vanity has been spent only to harm the sovereignty of the Gambia and ridicule the dignity of the people. He has lived only as a parasite to suck the blood of Gambians but never to give anything back to his society. Indeed, Sam Sarr is the epitome of an ingrate and a prodigal son of the land!

But let Sam Sarr be whatever he wishes to be. What is unacceptable is for the President of the Republic to transform that historic and sacred mandate of the people into a weapon to harm the people by engaging with ignoble people like Sam Sarr to undermine the Republic. I consider the meeting between Adama Barrow and Sam Sarr as treasonable for which the President must be held accountable. Like Yaya Jammeh, Sam Sarr is an enemy of the Gambia for the treasonable crimes they committed and then to continue to deny those crimes and mock victims.

One would have expected that Pres. Adama Barrow would tell Sam Sarr in no uncertain terms that Yaya Jammeh bears primary responsibility for the 22 years of gross human rights violations in this country for which he will be held accountable. An honest, bold and patriotic President would have put it to Sam Sarr that the Gambia Government will not reconcile with a tinpot dictator until and unless there is first, truth, justice and accountability. Pres. Barrow, if he were decent, honest and a true leader should have told Sam Sarr that Yaya Jammeh does not deserve the status of a former Head of State for he misruled this country and subjected it to international ridicule and pariah status. Yaya Jammeh deserves nothing other than to be prosecuted and sent to jail for good!

But alas! Once again, as consistently as ever, Mr. Adama Barrow has distinguished himself as the leading betrayer and traitor of the Republic of the Gambia never seen before in the history of this country! This is the most infamous meeting and the most disrespectful act to have taken place inside the House of the Republic, the people’s house. It is as unforgivable as it is disappointing, insulting and nonsensical!

For The Gambia Our Homeland.

Three Years Jotna chiefs renew their three-finger salute as state abandons their case

0

Nine top officials of the now-defunct Operation Three Years Jotna walked from court today after the state opted out of the case.

A statement by the justice ministry said: “The Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Justice has taken the decision after careful consideration to put a halt on the criminal proceedings against the accused persons charged with various offences under the criminal code in respect of activities arising from the incident of the 26th day of January 2020 popularly called the ‘three years jotna’.

“Whilst the Honourable Attorney General is under no obligation to state the reason or reasons for his action, the Honourable Attorney General wishes to state that this humanitarian gesture, taken after consultation with the President and within the Ramadan spirit, is predicated on promoting peace and reconciliation among all stakeholders in the political process as we approach the upcoming elections in December this year.

“The Honourable Attorney General would like to seize this opportunity to urge all citizens and residents of The Gambia to be law abiding and to avail themselves of the legal means and mechanisms in place for the redress of grievances.”

The officials have been battling with the state following violent protests they led in January 2020. They were arrested and charged with various criminal offences.

One of the officials Haji Suwaneh shared photos shortly after the development where they are seen making three-finger salutes.

‘It was just a proposal’: Samsudeen Sarr clarifies that Jammeh’s safe return to Gambia was just a suggestion on his part

0

Samsudeen Sarr has said former President Yahya Jammeh’s safe return to the country was just a proposal he made to President Adama Barrow during their meeting on Monday.

The nation’s former deputy ambassador to the UN Sarr met the president on Monday, a meeting he said lasted for an hour.

“…we were able to discuss various subjects but most importantly about a project involving an ecological hazzard in the Kombo St. Mary’s vicinity that requires urgent rehabilitation. I have in the past six months been studying the project which couldn’t be done without government support and blessing. I have at some point even introduced it the KMC mayor, Mr. Bensouda, but not much could be done in the absence of government participation.

“I am therefore glad to say that President Barrow was very receptive to the proposal and has pledged his personal support and that of his government towards the realization of the project. The commencement of the work is now dependent on the project paper he demands from me to introduce it to the relevant ministries and departments.

“We have also discussed the political situation in the country and his party’s desire to forge a reconciliatory trajectory with all political parties and especially with the APRC.

“His willingness to reconcile with President Jammeh and offer him the treatment of a former head of state as one of his cardinal objectives aimed at unifying the Gambian people was satisfactorily discussed. It is wonderful hear his level of political tolerance towards even his adversaries.

“I have in turn assured him my total support to his party and objectives for the general welfare and development of the country and hope to see the safe homecoming of former President Yahya Jammeh as soon as possible. The system of honoring and cherishing our former presidents is a constitutional and cultural imperative that should be respected, no matter what,” Sarr said on Monday.

Gambians reacted variously to his meeting with some suggesting President Barrow was planning to bring Jammeh back hom.

But Sarr told The Fatu Network on Tuesday: “In reality, I suggested it. That that is the route to go to bring and reconciliation in the country. People are misinterpreting it to mean it came from the president. In fact the president has not confirmed it yet. It was only a proposal from me.”

By BBC

Bill and Melinda Gates say they are getting divorced after 27 years of marriage, saying “we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple”.

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the pair wrote on Twitter.

The two met in the late 1980s when Melinda joined Bill’s Microsoft firm. They have three children.

They jointly run the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The organisation has spent billions fighting causes such as infectious diseases and encouraging vaccinations in children.

The Gates’ – along with investor Warren Buffett – are behind the Giving Pledge, which calls on billionaires to commit to giving away the majority of their wealth to good causes.

Bill Gates is the fourth wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes, and is worth $124 billion.

He made his money through the firm he co-founded in the 1970s, Microsoft, the world’s biggest software company.

The pair both posted the statement announcing their divorce on Twitter.

“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” it read.

“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.

“We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”

Jammeh’s safe return to Gambia: Samsudeen Sarr meets President Barrow and says he discussed the president’s willingness to reconcile with ex-President Jammeh

0

Samsudeen Sarr has announced meeting President Adama Barrow and discussing the president’s willingness to reconcile with former President Yahya Jammeh.

In a statement on his Facebook page, the nation’s former deputy ambassador to the UN said: “I was privileged today, Monday, May 3rd, 2021 to meet His Excellency President Adama Barrow of the Republic of the Gambia. In a meeting that roughly took an hour we were able to discuss various subjects but most importantly about a project involving an ecological hazzard in the Kombo St. Mary’s vicinity that requires urgent rehabilitation. I have in the past six months been studying the project which couldn’t be done without government support and blessing. I have at some point even introduced it the KMC mayor, Mr. Bensouda, but not much could be done in the absence of government participation.

The system of honoring and cherishing our former presidents is a constitutional and cultural imperative that should be respected, no matter what.

“I will finally take a moment to thank the facilitators of this special meeting, starting with the government spokesman Ebrima Sankareh, the minister of land Hon. Musa Drammeh and the SIS Director General Mr. Ousman Sowe. It was a major breakthrough for me that I will always live to appreciate.”

‘It’s irresponsible and dangerous’: Dr Ismaila Ceesay savages President Barrow over his death comments and asks him to walk them back

0

Dr Ismaila Ceesay has blasted President Adama Barrow’s death comments as irresponsible and dangerous and called on him to withdraw them.

The president while meeting with former MPs at State House said NPP will choose death over shame in the December election. The comments have elicited negative reviews from Gambians online.

Dr Ismaila Ceesay tweeted on Monday: “@BarrowPresident’s statement that ‘NPP will prefer death to shame in ‘21 election’ is irresponsible & dangerous.

“With a fragile transition, the utterance risk adding oxygen to a potentially volatile electoral period. We urge him to withdraw this & be mindful of future utterances.”
