GDC national youth chief MC Cham Jnr has said the President Adama Barrow government is incompetent, as he shared his view over the appointment of Oreme Joiner.

Cham Jnr in a write-up he said with The Fatu Network stuck the knife into the Barrow over the appointment again of Mr Joiner. President Barrow had initially appointed Mr Joiner to the IEC only for him to reverse the decision after it emerged the former banker was a member of NPP.

Cham Jnr said: “Barrow’s Administration is not only incompetent but lack of interest in the public outcry. Mr Oremi Joiner who was recently appointed at the unconstitutional position of Deputy  Chairman at the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and rescinded after been notified by the public  of its illegality as an Executive Member of the President’s Party NPP.

“Mr Joiner is now appointed as the Chairman of the board of Directors at the Social Security Housing and Finance Corporation which comes back to the same previous issue. Who are the President’s advisers on appointments and legality?

“It is clearly stated in The Gambia 1997 Constitution section 175( 2) PART 3: PUBLIC ENTERPRISES that Public enterprise means any body corporate or other body or institution, wholly owned or controlled by the Government; (2) The members of the Board of directors or other governing body of a Public Enterprise shall be appointed by the President after consultation with the Public Service Commission and shall be selected from amongst persons of integrity, competence and maturity of judgment.

“A member of the National Assembly, the holder of a political office or an office of a political party shall not be qualified to be appointed to the Board of Directors or other governing body of a Public Enterprise.

“It’s seems to me that the Barrow administration careless about the constitution and it means no respect for the rule of law, encourages corruption, and threaten our National security.”
