Three Gambian doctors make Gambia proud by being certified as members of the Royal College of Surgeons in England.

The three doctors have finally succeeded in raising the Gambian flag at the Royal College of Surgeons in England.

Dr Kajali Camara , Dr Isaac Jabang and Dr Fatoumata Jaiteh have been certified as members of the Royal College of Surgeons in England after they passed the part A and B Surgeon Specialist exams which is one of the hardest gates in the medical arena. The program all together took about three years, 2019 to 18/06/2021.

Speaking on behalf of the three certified Drs, Dr Kajali Camara told The Fatu Network: “This is the first time a Gambian trained Doctor attains such a prestigious qualification. All of us passed the exams in the first attempt, this is not very usual and we represent a 100 percent pass for The Gambia.”

The program cost about 1,600 pounds and was partly funded by MOH and EFSTH.

However, Dr Camara said: “We funded part of it which is the preparatory classes and zoom classes. The Head of Department, Surgery at the EFSTH. Dr Kebba Marena was very supportive througout our program and we are grateful to him.”

Director of Health Services Dr Mustapha Bittaye commented: “This is a great achievement, a great plus to the health sector of this country. I am proud of them and I have no doubt they will continue to serve the people of this country to the best of their ability.”
