But a statement on Thursday said the Governing Council of University of The Gambia, has finally approved D12.6 million to purchase two new buses for students.

“This was in response to the protest demands,” the statement by the striking students said.

It added: “Accordingly, the UTG procurement department and Facilities are required to take necessary actions for purchasing the buses in 90 days. This is different from the two other busses expected to be donated by HE President Adama Barrow on Monday. This will amount it to four busses all together.

“We wish to thank the UTG management under the new leadership of Professor Gomez for the swift response to almost all our major demands. This is exactly what the students deserved and expected from the management of the UTG.
