GDC leader Mamma Kandeh has warned that President Adama Barrow is out to dupe Gambians once more – similar to what he did back in 2016.
President Barrow had pledged to serve for just three years but reneged on it which resulted in a so-called campaign for him to step down. The president later said one says anything when one is campaigning.
Mamma Kandeh speaking on Friday at a meeting held in Latrikunda Sabiji cautioned Gambians against falling for whatever President Barrow tells them.
He said: “They said it’s a transition government, they said three years and when that finishes they will hold elections for Gambians to choose whoever they want. They asked him at the time and he (Barrow) said he is a noble and content and will not roll back on his promise. He is the one who said it.
“When the Three Years Jotna got up, they brought police who fired teargas on Gambians injuring some and inflicting pain on them. They brought a vehicle to pour hot water on Gambians. That’s how he paid back Gambians.
“When he was campaigning, he said he will do just three years. No one forced them to say it. When the time came, Gambians reminded them and because they now have power, they took teargas and a vehicle to pour hot water on Gambians. Now that group has formed a party and are going back to Gambians asking them to vote for them.
“When they asked him why he didn’t respect his promise, he said when you’re seeking office you say whatever you like. So do you think we should believe anything again when such person comes back to us and tells us things?
“So Barrow is just telling you whatever he likes. If you vote for him, he will betray you and do whatever he likes.”
