Good sea depth: Ports begins dredging, massive 100,000cu m involved

Gambia Ports Authority has commenced dredging the sea and a staggering 100,000m cu will be dredged.

GPA is partnering with SINOMAJILAC for the month-long activity which started on Tuesday with reporters invited to cover the initial exercise.

Kulay Manneh is the Harbour Master at the Gambia ports authority and he told reporters: ‘’The harbour is located in an estuary, and the estuary is influenced by the in and out flow of water currents, and water coming in and out of the ocean.

“The movement of water goes with sand sediments, mud and other materials. Regular dredging has to be conducted to maintain good depth.”

Banka Manneh the public relation and communications officer for SinoMajilac vowed that his company with carry out the job professionally.

“We will carry our job professionally and ethically, Manneh said.

GPA occasionally dredge the sea to enable vessels to navigate and this year’s activity will see at least 100,000cu m dredged.
