A Jammeh-era minister Sidi Sanneh has accused the Minister of Justice Aboubacarr Tambadou of fabricating what he calls ‘implausible’ excuse with regard to clarifications he (Tambadou) made on his false news comments.
Tambadou, also the attorney general, on Monday said his recent comments that anyone found wanting of spreading false news will be prosecuted was taken out of context.
Reacting to the development on Tuesday, Mr Sanneh said “I wish Ba will spend more time investigating and prosecuting corruption allegations in his government than trying to salvage his tattered reputation.”
“This is a futile attempt to misrepresent verifiable facts captured on video tape,” he said in a post on the social media network Facebook.
He added: “Gambians would have been more charitable and forgiving if you’d simply admitted that you misspoke. There’s nothing wrong with admitting a mistake and owning up to it rather than fabricating an implausible excuse – a flawed trait of this government.”
