Police officer Musa Dumbuya told the high court in Bundung on Monday the boyfriend of the complainant in the rape case of Bubacarr Keita was ‘equally’ charged with defiling a minor.
The police sergeant had last week testified they’d initially charged Mr Keita with defiling a girl under the age of 18 years old.
The police officer continued to give evidence in Mr Keita’s rape trial on Monday by saying the complainant’s boyfriend was ‘equally’ charged with defiling a minor.
“If I can remember, he was equally charged with defilement of a girl under the age of 18,” Mr Dumbuya said when asked by prosecuting lawyer Alasan Jobe what charge the boyfriend was charged with.
Mr Dumbuya had last week said he knew Pa Modou Johm and he on Monday said he came to know him “as a boyfriend of the victim, through the victim’s mobile phone”.
“They used to exchange text messages,” Mr Dumbuya testified.
According to the witness, the police invited Johm and he both him and the complainant were interviewed.
“Pa Modou stated that he is a [fuel] pump attendant at Castle [Petrol] Station, where he met the victim. The victim’s father’s house is opposite the petrol station. They exchanged contacts and started dating,” he said.
The witness then said they charged Johm with defiling a minor and when asked why they charged him, he replied: “As I told you, Pa Modou was confirmed to be a boyfriend of the victim.”
He then said when asked by the prosecuting lawyer Jobe whether they found out when Johm began dating the complainant: “Yes. We confirmed the text messages which were exchanged between both og them and Pa Modou said at the time, he dated the victim for only three months.
During Monday’s session, the police officer also testified they found out through the ‘pregnancy test result’ the complainant’s pregnancy at the time was ‘four to five months’ [old].
