The angry residents are mainly from Serrekunda market and various areas within the municipality especially Bakoteh, where the country’s biggest dump site is located.

The reason advanced by the people is that the council is doing nothing to collect the rubbish in Serrekunda market and various packed destinations in the community especially at the Bakoteh dump site. They have been complaining of the councils careless attitude towards rubbish collection and the dump site which causes a great health risk to the people.

Residents said they pay their taxes accordingly but are not gaining no benefit from the council.

Today’s protest by angry residents is said to be a wake up call for the council to execute their duties accordingly without which the residents will continue to vent anger at them.

At the moment the authorities of the municipality headed by Mayor Yankuba Colley are meeting with government representatives, Interior Minister Mai Ahmed Fatty and the Environment minister Lamin B. Dibba as well as the people of Bakoteh trying to put things together.

We will keep you updated with developments as we get more details.
