Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria Zubairu Dada met President Adama Barrow as a special envoy of President Muhamdu Buhari, according to State House.
After a closed-door meeting with President Barrow, the special envoy disclosed to the media that he came to deliver a goodwill message from President Buhari, stating it is a message of love ‘from brother to brother, according to State House on its official Facebook page.
“To keep being friends, it is important to keep in touch. Buhari is interested in assisting The Gambia on its transition,” Dada noted, according to State House.
Nigeria played a big role in the 2016 Gambian political impasse when the country contributed troops and a fighter jet in sacking former President Yahya Jammeh.
Dada’s visit comes less than two months after President Barrow travelled to Nigeria to thank President Buhari for the support Nigeria has rendered the country since 2017.
During that visit, President Buhari told President Barrow kicking Jammeh out of power was in the interest of the entire ECOWAS region.
