The leader of the Citizens’ Alliance (CA) party, Dr Ismaila Ceesay has expressed his trust in the country’s Judiciary and by extension the entire justice architecture. Dr Ceesay was answering to a question by The Fatu Network during his recent press conference at the party’s office.
The question came after Dr Ceesay made public his party’s move of going to the high court as he seeks to challenge his disqualification by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
“Yes, we trust the justice system, especially recently, we have seen recent rulings that show the current judicial system is impartial, they follow due process, and they are doing their job.
If we didn’t trust the process, we wouldn’t take it [our case] there, we trust it, that’s why we took it there. So yes, we trust the justice system,” Dr Ceesay said confidently.
He further revealed that the case is now in court, and there shall be a hearing on Tuesday at 1:30 pm. He said the party is focused on that case. After that, they (CA) can now make a decision as to the way forward for the party.
“We feel that our rights have been violated, the IEC did not follow due process in the way they handled our nomination. Therefore, we think the best way is to go to the court and let the court decide. The courts are here for everybody, the law is here for everyone, to protect everybody’s fundamental human rights,” Dr Ceesay said.
