UDP gives D400, 000 to reeling Basse market fire victims

United Democratic Party Wednesday gave D400,000 to victims of a fire disaster at Basse market Monday.

The people of Basse were late Monday thrown into poverty after a fire whose cause is still shrouded in mystery ravaged the town’s only market. Properties worth millions of dalasis were consumed by the fire.

On Wednesday, UDP officials led by party leader Ousainou Darboe travelled to Basse to commiserate with the fire victims. The party gave D400,000 to the victims, the single biggest gesture from a political party so far.

Gambia Democratic Party had on Tuesday donated D200,000 to the victims.
