Police move quickly as violence breaks out in URR between Waliba Kunda and Perai Tenda

Police have been sent to Waliba Kunda and Perai Tenda in the Upper River Region as violence erupted between the youths of the two villages on Sunday.

The two villages have been locked in a bitter war over a parcel of land resulting in a court battle.

The people of Perai Tenda claim the disputed land has been under their custody for over 400 years.

Youths of the two villages equipped with machetes, axes and knives clashed on Sunday leaving many injured.

Police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie (not the author of this story) told The Fatu Network: “We can confirm a case of land dispute which escalated to violence between the villages of Waliba Kunda and Perai Tenda in the URR.

“Today 5th July 2020 youths of both villages armed with cutlasses, axes, knives and other crude weapons clashed in the morning resulting to some injuries and damages to properties.

“The police deployed officers on the ground to put an end to the violence and maintain the peace.

“We continue to advice the communities to exercise restraint while the courts deal with the issues surrounding the land dispute.”
