President Barrow’s Security Adviser, Retired Military Officer Momodou Badjie has said that the new administration is very serious with security sector reforms.
Badjie made these remarks during the award ceremony of the technical group who completed a training on the security sector reform at The State House, Banjul.
The technical group includes all security sectors and members of the civil society. The security sector reform was launched by the Gambian President, Adama Barrow in September 2017.
“There is no room for excuse,” Momodou Badjie said. “You are going to be the foundation of the security sector reform,” he added.
Badjie reiterated the need to take up responsibility to fulfill the reforms after completing the training course. He commended the international donors for the support.
He told awardees to be good advocates as the journey has just started.
Ms Ade Mamonyane Lekoetje, UNDP Resident Coordinator commended the achievement, saying the training is a step to consolidate the democracy that Gambians fought for to restore peace and stability in the country.
“The job has just started,” UN Resident Coordinator said. “There will be challenges on the way but it is your job to face challenges,” she added.
The UN Resident Coordinator commended the UN, ECOWAS, EU and World Bank for the support.
“The implementation is left to the people and the government of The Gambia,” she asserted.
The Secretary to the Cabinet, Mr Ebrima Ceesay who deputized for the Secretary General said the training is the first phase that will be follow by other steps.
Meanwhile, about twenty officers and civil society members received certificates.
