On Friday, the men had their rank symbols attached to their shoulders where they swore loyalty to the state.

They swore to six different issues; office, trust, secrecy, allegiance to the commander in chief, allegiance to the state and allegiance to the people of The Gambia.

On The Gambia and citizens, the officers swore they will bear “true allegiance and absolute loyalty to the republic of The Gambia at all times”. They also swore will bear “true allegiance and absolute loyalty to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces at all times”.
