United Democratic Party leader Ousainou Darboe has said it is true that he is old and he is thanking God for it but insisted he is mentally alert than a lot of young folks.
Speaking to citizens at UDP’s rally in Banjul over video on Wednesday, Darboe said: “We hear that you say we are old. But we thank God for the long life and we will be happy if he can double it. We are old yes but the Mandinka say an old person is not God but has been alongside God for long. It means an old person knows what happened in the past, what happened presently and can tell you what would happen in the future.
“An old person is a serious person and would not do anything that would cause him shame or shame to his family. An old person brings experience and an old person brings wisdom to the Office of the President.
“The people saying he is old… It’s true and I thank God for it. But I have never seen any country other than Gambia where they say ‘this man is old’. The US president is old and I don’t even know how many years he is older than me.
“I have never seen anyone saying Ousainou Darboe is clueless, I have never seen anyone say Ousainou Darboe is suffering from amnesia. I am mentally alert than a lot of 35-year-olds. They talk about my age because they don’t have anything else to say.”
