Gambia Moral Congress has written to the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission warning him that his refusal to obey a court order for him to contest Saturday’s presidential election is sending a clear signal of his blatant disregard for the law.

In a November 30 letter seen by The Fatu Network and signed by leader Mai Fatty, GMC said the IEC chairman promised to revert to GMC regarding the party’s nomination but the only response has been deafening silence a day to the election.

GMC then warned the IEC chief: “GMC and its candidate insist on exercising their entrenched constitutional rights, without equivocation. Your continued refusal to comply with the order of the court, is sending a clear signal to the whole world of your naked disregard for the law and due process, and your clear intention to continue to unlawfully exclude us from participating in this election.

“GMC and its entire supporters globally shall continue to be law abiding, and shall resort to the law courts to vigorously challenge the illegal actions of the IEC, even after the purported election, scheduled for the 4th of December 2021.”
