Facebook’s ban on Trump remains, but company must review the matter

The Facebook and Instagram Oversight Board has upheld Facebook’s decision to ban former U.S. President Donald Trump from posting content on his Facebook and Instagram accounts.

However, in a statement, the board however said that “it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension.” The board instructed the company to review the matter within six months, possibly opening the door to Trump’s return.

Facebook’s normal penalties include removing the violating content, imposing a time-bound period of suspension, or permanently disabling the page and account.
