Ebrima Sanneh’s family have expressed shock at the police’s about-face in the torture of the 26-year-old.
“This is shocking. Gorgi Mboob together with his deputy begged for forgiveness and this was inside their investigation room at the anti-crime there. He then gave us D1000 which Ebrima said he will not touch,” Ebrima’s aunt said as she reacted to the police’s statement Saturday evening.
The police have come under fire after reports anti-crime supremo Gorgi Mboob allegedly beat Ebrima Sanneh while he was detained at anti-crime. The incident allegedly happened on Friday; a team of police officers led by SO Sarr then escorted Sanneh to Kanifing Hospital on Friday after he couldn’t urinate.
On Saturday, Gorgi Mboob told The Fatu Network he could not himself comment on the issue, saying the police spokesman would come up with a statement.
Police later in their statement on Saturday said claims Ebrima was attacked by Mr Mboob are ‘false’.
“For verification purposes, his family can be contacted,” police said while dismissing the claims.
At least three people who say they were also detained at anti-crime and were on the scene have however told The Fatu Network Mr Mboob did indeed beat Sanneh.
“I saw him do it and I’m ready to testify anywhere we go. I was there with 25 other people,” one of them said.
