Commentator Nyang Njie has announced he will be rallying behind United Democratic Party for the December election.
Mr Njie made the announcement today.
He said in a Facebook post: “Watched Lawyer Darboe’s documentary yesterday and it was a masterpiece. He is definitely a selfless human being who gave all for country when it wasn’t fashionable to do so. Henry Gomez stated in one of his comical videos that before you ask, you must give and in the words of Henry he stated in Wollof that “balaa nga partaseh, nga kotisay”. This implies that one must have equity before coming to the table. Well am not in agreement with Henry as public service is not an investment to be recouped hence the mushroomingof POLITICALENTREPRENEURS in our body politics. I can testify to the commitment of Darboe to country as he always rose to the occasion when country needed him. We are a myopic nation where many tend to have selective amnesia. Darboe is not perfect but he has allowed the narrative of detractors to identify who he is. Yes he is not perfect and has committed political errors that could have been avoided. His weakness in my view is his belief that he is not what many portray him to be therefore, he is not going to counter the accusations levelled against him as tribalist. Darboe evolved at an early age as a crusader against injustice and his benevolence was driven by conviction. Many reputable members of society attested to his unwavering quest to intervene at his cost and peril when his fellow compatriots needed his service and financial assistance in his documentary.
“His family suffered heavily for the positions he took when country called. I do hope that my generation can learn from his documentary that sacrificing for country is a moral and civic duty that rest on the conscience of the citizenry. The selfishness of many especially younger Gambians in positions of power and financial means is deafening. Gambia is in the conundrum it finds itself today due to the selfish nature of our giants of industries and self serving middle class who refused to speak truth to power for fear of upsetting the establishment yet still they yearn for change. The winds of change from Independence to date has been bankrolled by the common Gambian yet still it is the business titans and lurking opportunistic middle class who line up to reap the benefits of change. Our public contracts are awarded to those that enabled injustice and people who chose to be indifferent to our past predicament. When the Kalama revolution was in full gear, the peasant and everyday Gambian volunteered their bodies as casualties of the brutal brute whilst most of us idly watched. When the results of the elections were announced, most middle class Gambians were first in line for perks, benefits and jobs. What a sad state of affairs for our country and conscience.
“The December 4th election is not about UDP. It is about the salvation of our Republic, our dignity and purpose as a nation. It must be seen as an opportunity to rid Gambia of an inept President whose desire for self perpetuation and personal gain knows no bound. It should be an election of redeeming our lost transition. Voting for UDP is a vote to give Gambia a chance for a new lease in life. A vote for you UDP may be the only viable option to oust Barrow and his misguided bunch of charlatans who abused our collective resources. Based on the foregoing, I will rally behind UDP as Benny Ebrima Ek-Williamsson stated in an earlier post to give Gambia a chance for redemption. I believe in the Gambia and the words ” by any means necessary” means that NYANG NJIE will do whatever it takes to effect change. What we do with the change once the winds of change blow across our shores is left to us. We can demand and pressure UDP to hit the reset button for a true meaningful transition that will position Gambia once and for all to effect the much needed reforms our country deserve. I will cast my vote to the candidate that I believe has the best chance to uproot the public decadence cultivated by Barrow. This is my realism and it is devoid of emotions and driven by pragmatism and urgency. Great Sunday to all and may the great God of nations see us true in the albatross that choke our necks as a country. I stand by Gambia and her furtherance hence my reason not to vote for Barrow. We all have a choice to make but our choice must be guided by our desire to move on. I remind my fellow middle class citizens that we owe it to Gambia to stop sitting on the fence due to our selfish desire of self preservation and insulation from economic loss. I am proud of Alhagie Conteh of Dabanani for having the courage of conviction to discharge his solemn belief without fear. Our business moguls and influences must rise up and take sides publicly if their citizenship means something to them.
“If not, Nyang Njie will continue to see them as part of the problem and not the solution. The nature of a convenient apologist is deceitful and unconscionable. Stand up and be counted. If the perpetuation of the status quo is what you want, stand and be counted. If you want to upset the status quo, stand and be counted. Playing it safe at the expense of your conscience is not patriotic nor dignified. I want Barrow out of the public space and its a right I want to enforce. Be it known to all that NYANG NJIE is openly advocating for change. Those in positions of public power who want to deny my of economic opportunities that am qualified to execute can do so but I will not waver in my quest for change. For those that share the same dream and choose to be bystanders, I say shame on you and your conscience. Gambia is once again at a crossroad.
“Our actions or lack thereof will determine the trajectory of our nation, our future and fate of generations yet unborn. I choose to be in the path of righteousness and redemption of my dearly beloveth Kambi Bolongho. I have nothing to loose but my nation. Our collective silence and inaction will only entrench graft, corruption, ineptitude in this struggling nation of ours. Food for thought for those that have country at heart. For those without scrupple, conscience, conviction and purpose for country, I say keep on looking for personal gains at the expense of the greater good. Nyang has decided that Barrow is not fit for purpose and use for Gambia. He failed on all the expectations set forth to redeem our nation.”
