APRC recites quran as party marks 27 years of Jammeh’s overthrow of Jawara

APRC on Thursday held a quran recitation to mark 27 years of former President Yahya Jammeh overthrow of former President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.

Mr Jammeh on July 22, 1994, toppled Jawara who had been in power for over 30 years. But Mr Jammeh himself lost power in 2016 after 22 years.

APRC members gathered at the party’s bureau in Manjai on Thursday to mark the event’s 27th anniversary.

According to the party’s deputy spokesman Dodou Jah, they have never been allowed to commemorate 22nd July since the coming into being of the coalition government.

“We resorted to doing it peacefully, reciting the quran and making prayers for ourselves and the nation,” Mr Jah said.
