Scores of Gambians could not get tested for Covid on Friday after health workers refused to turn up at work.

The health ministry has been sweating over unhappy workers who have been complaining about poor working condition.

Yet, the ministry announced earlier this month that all travellers will now be paying for Covid test at Ecobank.

But there were dramatic scenes at the testing centres in Brusubi and at the Stadium Friday as workers were a no-show.

One person who could not get tested said: “I’m supposed to travel tomorrow but I came for the test only to come to the test centre in Brusubi and be told the doctors are on strike. For me I am going to sue the ministry.”

Modou Njai of the ministry of health could not immediately comment on the issue.
