The leader of opposition Gambia Democratic Congress Mamma Kandeh has said that his party was formed to fight tribalism.
Mamma Kandeh said this Saturday as hundreds of delegates met in Basse Upper River Region to pick a new leadership for GDC. It was the first time the party was holding an elective congress since its formation two years ago.
According to Mr Kandeh, “the GDC came to trample down tribalism and champion peace in our homeland.”
“As we came to champion peace, we envisage to have a happy nation, enjoy high standards of effective governance. The party was built to foster a culture of respect for the fundamental human rights and freedom with a highly skilled and motivated workforce,” the GDC leader told delegates.
“The part focuses on strong democratic foundations that promote popular and multi-party contest for power thus enabling the people to have and to make choice of their leadership.”
