Gambia Action Party on Monday frowned at anti-Islamic comments by French President Emmanuel Macron, calling for the establishment of a new organisation of Islamic States.
The French president has reportedly accused Muslims of separatism while reporting vowing not to give up cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad. Macron has reportedly said “Islam is a religion that is in crisis all over the world today (not only in France),” – comments that have sparked outrage among Muslims.
Musa Ousainou Yali Batchilly-led GAP in a statement said: “Your freedom of expression ends when you intentionally offend over two billion people around the world. During this crucial time in the world that led to the death of many people thought to be infected with the COVID-19, the hallmark of a leader is to unite mankind regardless of one’s identity rather than dividing or further creating polarisation and marginalisation amongst human beings. We are conscious of the fact that insulting the most powerful creature to have ever lived in the surface of earth and alleging that Islam is a source of international terrorism are disappointing remarks uttered by Emmanuel Macron expected from a President.
“We call on all the Islamic leaders around the world to boycott the international ties with the French government and boycott French products until he apologizes to the people he willingly offended. GAP believes and respect all the religious beliefs and equally calling on the government of the Gambia to suspend our diplomatic relations with France with an immediate effect. On an equal footing, the peace charter under United Nations Convention has been threatened by a sitting president, and we call on UN to address this unprecedented process the world is going through.
“Islam is a source of peace and solution to the problems that the world faces every other day, and guaranteed the fundamental human rights, respect for rule of law and condemned terrorism, racism as well as conflicts. Shame on the French President for being a free thinker and source of division because no religion has ever supported division. Little did Macron know that the economic boom of France and the luxury he’s enjoying today was contributed immensely by muslims as history cannot be cheated or ignored. In his quest to consolidate power, he has succeeded in insulting his own dignity and exposed his stupidity to the mankind. To end this madness, we call on the French Muslim footballers to boycott playing games for France and in their domestic leagues until this issue is resolved. No man can stand tall ahead of everyone.
“We propose that all the Muslim nations come together in unison and harmony to establish United Islamic Nations (UIN) to ensure that justice is accorded to every member state and unite in times of crisis.”
