A fresh conversation has erupted around women in the country putting tobacco into their private part.
Elite Media bosslady Fatoumatta Coker on Sunday hosted a three-hour program on The Fatu Network aimed at raising awareness on a lifestyle said to be common among women in The Gambia.
According to Ms Coker, women are naturally inclined to over-do things even if it’s not alright.
Alagie contributing from Seattle, said: “Our kids need to be sitting with our elders and being told how they should go about this world.
“Because if you think you should do everything for your man [to satisfy him], the day he leaves, you would end up regretting.
“We should also stop spreading false information about these things. The only person making profit out of it is the person selling it you and you that’s using it would end up with healthcare issues.”
One woman contributing said: “We should tell each other the truth. This is not a cure to anything. It’s just a drug that you get addicted to. Even old women are using it.”
There are many claims being advanced about why women are putting tobacco into their vagina. They include greater sexual pleasure, shrinking the genitals and raising the odds of getting pregnant.
The actual percentage of Gambian women who live on tobacco in this form remains unclear.
