Insult: President Barrow to work with National Assembly on anti-insult law

0

President Adama Barrow working with the National Assembly hopes to eventually come up with legistation to bring a lasting solution to the abuse and insults innocent citizens are subjected to online, according to government spokesperson Ebrima Sankareh.

President Barrow had threatened to ban all opposition political activities when he wins the election in December.

On Tuesday, government spokesperson Ebrima Sankareh issued a statement saying the president’s statement was mischaracterised.

He however said elsewhere the president will work with the National Assembly on a law around insult.

He said: “Moving forward, President Barrow envisages a more tolerant and diverse Gambia where citizens can debate openly, agree and disagree amicably without resulting to insults and foul language that could potentially cause chaos in society.

“Working with the National Assembly, the president hopes to eventually come up with legislation to bring a lasting solution to the abuse and insults innocent citizens are subjected to daily on social media platforms.”

MP slams President Barrow’s D35M FaBB money explanation as ‘utter’ nonsense – but the MP’s own explanation leaves one person confused

0

MP Sanna Jawara on Wednesday blasted as ‘utter’ baloney comments by President Adama Barrow the 35 million dalasis a Chinese company paid into the account of the First Lady’s foundation was used to fund his trip to China.

A staggering 700,000 dollars landed in the account of the First Lady’s foundation in 2017 and the money quickly disappeared. President Barrow spoke about the issue for the first time recently and said the money was used to fund his 2017 trip to China.

But MP Sanna Jawara of Upper Fulladu West wrote Wednesday: “For the President to claim that his delegation’s trip to China was financed by TBEA’s dubious D35M transfer into the FaBB Account is utter baloney. That trip was financed through the SAB 2018 with an allocation of D29M.”

His comment has however left Alhagi A Barry confused who wrote: “Bro the trip was in 2017 how comes it was in the budget, or SAB for 2018 am confused please elaborate more if am right.”

The MP then replied: “Alhagi A Barry this was my argument during the SAB 2018 debate. I argued that we cannot approve the allocation since the cost was incurred before the approval by the National Assembly, thus in contravention to sec.153 of the 1997 constitution.

“However my argument was not supported by the plenary and was eventually supported as part of the approved SAB 2018 bill. I hope that clarifies your question. Thank you sir.”

President Barrow wants to turn The Gambia into a One-Party Authoritarian State. Resist

By Madi Jobarteh

Fellow Gambians, regardless of any party or politician one supports, the time to stand up to defend democracy is higher today than ever. Because of our ignorance, dishonesty, indifference, and lethargy hence our silence and apathy we gave fertile grounds for the growth and development of dictatorship from 1994 to 2016. The price we paid for our dishonesty, ignorance and indifference is all too clear to us.

Today, we are seeing the same scenario repeating itself and we have no one to blame but ourselves. If the emergence of dictatorship took us by surprise yesterday, today we cannot claim the same excuse.

On 15 August 2021 the President unambiguously and directly and specifically stated in a public event at State House that come December 4th, if he wins the election, he will close down political activity. To strengthen that resolve, he said he will ask the IGP to not issue any permits to anyone for political activity. That statement by the President is the greatest threat posed to our democracy and Republic. It is a direct violation of the Constitution for which he should have faced impeachment if The Gambia was a normal country!

Effectively, the President intends to turn The Gambia into a one-party state under a tyranny never seen before. This is because when you deny every citizen and every political party to freely and openly participate in the affairs of the country, it means only the President will be left to engage in political activity together with those who support him. That’s the definition of a one-party state!

President Adama Barrow wants to bring back that Yaya Jammeh style of governance where only he and his party engage and participate. In that system, there will be many parties but they conduct politics at a cost to their lives and limb. It means any citizen who wishes to hold the Government accountable does so at his or her own peril. In other words, the country will be claimed to be a democracy but in fact it is a one-party authoritarian state as we had under that Tinpot Dictator. Resist.

The press release issued by his Spokesman Ebrima Sankareh has given us enough information that indeed the President intends to close this country down. Read the last paragraph of that press release to see the true intention of the President and his Government. They are now saying that they will go to the National Assembly to create a law to effectively close down or control social media.

The threat against social media has been ongoing since this Government took over. But remember that if you control, limit or close down social media then it means you are attacking free speech. It also means you are attacking free and independent media. It also means you are attacking freedom of assembly and the rest of our fundamental freedoms.

I am very worried, scared, concerned, angry and disturbed at the idea of controlling social media. This is the only marketplace where citizens have to express themselves hence participate, influence and determine the political life of their communities and country. If you close this space then it means popular participation, transparency and accountability are dead hence corruption, ineptitude, abuse and violations will go unnoticed and unchallenged.

If indeed the President’s concern was only about the insults spewed from mainly political opponents, then the President should be the first to address his supporters to stop insulting. NPP and Barrow supporters in general are among the leading insulters in the country. But the President has never stopped or suspended or expelled any supporter because of insults. Therefore it is false to claim that the President is concerned about insults on social media.

Therefore, all Gambians must now recognize that President Adama Barrow poses a clear and present danger to democracy and the peace and stability of the Republic. The President is the leading threat to human rights contrary to his oath of office and the Constitution.

Citizens must be ready to stop him. Let us not allow party politics, tribalism, indifference and other sectarian considerations make us ignore the national threat we face from none other than the President himself. This President wants to turn this country into a dictatorship. All citizens have a historic and constitutional right and duty to resist that. 100%.

Stand up against Tyranny! Defend Democracy.

“I usually buy five loaves of bread for my family at a cost of D35 and now I have to take D50 to have five loaves of bread. I am urging the government or those authority in control the prices of essential commodities to come to our aid,” he said.

Meanwhile, fares have also gone up in parts of the region with cost for a taxi trip shooting to D10 from D8.

Bansang native Alagie Camara says the move is likelt to bring a confrontation between the taxi drivers and the commuters.

Kounkande puts aside his plan to tear the Soumbedione sea due to…

0

Kounkande has suspended his plan to tear the Soumbedione Sea amid much controversy that has trailed it.

Announcing the suspension on Tuesday evening, Kounkande said there has been a lot of controversy and that there are reports of some people trying to cause chaos.

He told Senegalese media EvenProd: “When I was making my announcement, I did not tell Demba, I did not tell Masamba. My uncles were not aware, my wives were not aware, there was no journalist that I invited and told I was going to part the sea.

“It was my decision to tear the sea to help Senegalese go to Europe. But since it has given birth to all this controversy, we will postpone the event.”

Misleading Press Release by Government Spokesman on Pres. Barrow’s Intentions

By Madi Jobarteh

The press release of the Government Spokesman Ebrima Sankareh seeking to clarify the anti democratic comments of the President is unnecessary and not true. To claim that the President’s remarks came about because of his concern about insults in political discourse is unfounded. This is because President Barrow was a witness when his ministers, surrogates and supporters have used his own political rallies to rain insults on his opponents.

During his meet the people’s tours, the President sat in rallies as his supporters released missiles of insults without him taking any step to stop them right in the middle of their tirades. If he were concerned, he would have made sure such people are stopped ASAP and reprimanded. That’s what responsible leaders do.

Rather, we saw how the President was giggling when his Minister Henry Gomez was ridiculing opposition leader Ousainou Darboe in their Brikama rally in 2019. Just a few weeks ago, Barrow was again smiling as Minister Hamat Bah called political opponents rats. Barrow never stopped them rather he enjoyed the show.

There are uncountable media platforms in support of Barrow where his supporters continuously insult, ridicule and abuse individuals they disagree with or oppose. I have been a subject of such ridicule and insults from prominent Barrow supporters which are shared in his social media platforms. https://youtu.be/VesV5Snr01I

Therefore if Sankareh is claiming that the President is concerned about insults, I wish to state that Ebrima G Sankareh is indeed speaking bongums. What the President said about shutting down politics, whatever that means, is not a slip of the tongue or a concern about insults or anything. Otherwise we would have seen Barrow cleanse his own social media platforms first and publicly sanction supporters who indulge in insults and abuse. But he never did.

Indeed what the President said is the imagination and advice from his technocrats including the Minister of Information Ebrima Sillah and his Spokesman Ebrima Sankareh and others in State House. That’s the only interpretation we can give otherwise Sillah or Sankareh would have told the President to avoid such undemocratic statements. But this is their thinking that they are hellbent on implementing someday.

This threat to clamp down on political activity and freedom of expression is a calculated attempt to silence citizens. It is intended to shield the President and his Government from public scrutiny. It is a means to prevent anyone from holding Barrow and his Administration accountable hence serve to perpetuate corruption, cover up ineptitude, abuse of office and human rights violations.

Therefore Barrow and his Ministers, technocrats and advisors know very much what he is talking about. Just because they have failed to control the narrative, now their strategy therefore is to silence every voice so that they would become the only source of opinion and information in the country. That’s the definition of dictatorship.

Therefore let Sankareh shove this nonsensical press release to where he wants it, but no Gambian should waste time to even give it the benefit of doubt. Rather all citizens must become alert and vigilant that this unconstitutional and undemocratic words of the President are indeed the voice of a dictator! We must resist! Now.

Therefore, on my part, I wish to send Ebrima Sankareh to both Pres. Adama Barrow and IGP Abdoulie Sanyang to tell them that we The Gambia people shall not allow and will resist to death their diabolical attempt to close our mouths and our eyes! This country does not belong to them and they are not the kings of The Gambia!

The sovereignty of The Gambia resides in the People of The Gambia and all State organs, institutions and public officials derive their power, legitimacy and authority from we the People, and all State organs, institutions and public officials perform their duties on our behalf and for our welfare. This is the language of the Constitution that Adama Barrow swore to uphold and defend on the 19 January 2017 in Dakar, Sénégal.

A word to the wise is enough!

Government denies President Barrow plans to ban opposition political activities

0

Government spokesperson Ebrima Sankareh has issued a statement dismissing reports President Adama Barrow plans to ban political activities in the country.

Mr Sankareh in a statement on Monday said: “The Government of The Republic of The Gambia, hereby declares that His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, has no intentions whatsoever to either curtail the freedoms of citizens nor interfere, control or ban political activities either during or after the upcoming Presidential election slated for 4th December, 2021. The same applies to the 2022 Parliamentary elections.

“Citizens, residents, members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps are reassured without equivocation, that President Barrow is a strong believer in Democracy. Ever since coming to power in 2017, the promotion and consolidation of fundamental human rights has been his preoccupation as evident in the proliferation of media houses, the raging public debates and stimulatingdiscourses.

“Fundamentally, while a strong believer in human rights as universal values, President Barrow sees as worrisome, the amplification of audios and videos in Social Media subjecting innocent citizens to daily insults, abuse, innuendoes and ridicule and urges citizens to desist from such activities.

“Concerned about this worrisome trajectory that has plagued Gambian society in the new dispensation, Mr.Barrow tried to address it in a speech at State House while meeting a cross-section of the Serer Community. That statement has in itself, been grossly exaggerated, mischaracterized and misinterpreted to score cheap political points.

“Moving forward, President Barrow envisages a more tolerant and diverse Gambia where citizens can debate openly, agree and disagree amicably without resulting to insults and foul language that could potentially cause chaos in society. Working with the National Assembly, The President hopes to eventually, come up with legislation to bring a lasting solution to the abuse and insults innocent citizens are subjected to daily on Social Media platforms.”

Gambia’s newfound freedom was earned, not given

By Dibba Chaku

It has become apparent that one thing that continues to reverberate in President Barrow’s ears is the notion that he and his administration are the ones that allow freedom of expression and politicking in our new dispensation, and this is far-fetched. Mr. President is being ill-advised that the presumed autocratic powers that his predecessor had and used to stifle dissent and abrogate the rights of Gambians are the same powers at his disposal. Hence the recent premonition that political agitators on the other side of the aisle will be barred from navigating the political landmines after the December polls in which he is anticipating victory. Will this be the beginning of the erosion of democratic principles, or is it just an incumbent drenched in a pool of paranoia trying to resuscitate a re-election agenda that appears to be on life support? Either way, democracy appears to be in danger.

Should we remind Mr. President that the freedom that Gambians are enjoying today was not conceived and born within three months? Matter of fact, it had a twenty-two-year gestation period that ravaged families, consumed lives, incapacitated many, exiled others, disenfranchised a lot, and irreversibly changed lives. So, when the Gambian people voted for change in 2016, it was not because we saw a would-be quintessential leader in Adama Barrow. Instead, we knew we had a situation that decelerated from bad to severely messed up, and that the status quo could not be allowed to continue in perpetuity. That was a common denominator that bound us together as a unifying force to take on a dictator who thought his military might and spiritual capabilities were enough fortification against all forces. This freedom of ours was never given to us on a silver platter, it was earned and will be safeguarded against usurpation.

It is my fervent belief that the powers vested in Mr. President today will be the exact same powers that he will have after the December polls should he win the elections. So why wait until December to use those powers? If they are advising you that you have both manpower and firepower to stifle dissent, why not act now? You can go ahead and instruct your Inspector General of Police to start dancing to your music if the choreography is indeed lively. It would be interesting to see if the IG and his men will be coerced to stifle dissent by any means necessary as a way of appeasing their commander-in-chief who is now averse to multiparty democracy and dissenting views. Watching that crowd erupt in a clapping frenzy as Mr. President vows to stop political opponents from holding rallies and other political activities after the December polls is just mind-boggling.

A great writer once wrote that “the mind is a powerful force. It can enslave us or empower us. It can plunge us into the depths of misery or take us to the heights of ecstasy. Learn to use the power wisely.” Do not be misguided by those who know better, but just will not do better like they have done when your predecessor was at the mantle of leadership in The Gambia.

President Barrow breaks his silence over his advisers

0

President Adama Barrow has said an adviser doesn’t necessarily have to be a PhD holder, pushing back at criticism directed at his top aides.

The president has been much savaged for appointing nonentities are his closest confidantes.

But speaking in an exclusive interview with Star TV, the president said: “Sometimes they say it’s professors and PhD holders who should be your advisers. That’s how they think about it. But there are PhD holders whom you know are not loyal. Would such a person advise you on anything good? He would only throw you in a ditch.

“An adviser must be somebody who is loyal. Someone who would tell you the truth. And someone who is ready to work with you for the sake of your agenda, and is ready to take the bullet for you. Those are the kind of people you should make your advisers.”

Ramou Sabally begins life in UDP, to meet Darboe on Friday

0

Ramou Sabally will meet UDP leader Ousainou Darboe on Friday to officialise her membership of UDP.

Ramou who is a stalwart member of President Adama Barrow’s National People’s Party left the president’s party on Monday. She had vowed on her parents graves to leave the party amid a bitter feud between her and Maimuna Baldeh.

The Fatu Network understands Ramou will meet UDP leader Darboe on Friday.

Momodou Sabally says he told President Barrow he’ll take one of his sisters from him

0

Former secretary general Momodou Sabally taunted President Adama Barrow in an audio message on Tuesday saying he has taken his sister from him.

Ramou Sabally, Sabally’s sister, left President Barrow’s National People’s Party on Monday.

Mr Sabally in an audio message said: “I thank Allah that whenever I said something, it happens. I went to Faraba with my brother Omar Sanyang to take his sister from NPP and bring her to UDP. I am launching ‘Operation Bring Back Your Sisters’.

“I said [to you] ‘Adama Barrow, you’re with two of my sisters and I would take one of them back before the election’. Has one not come? UDP will only move forward. It’s about Operation Save your Relatives. Let’s bring our relatives back and save them from humiliation.”

‘Back Way’: Over 1,700 migrants intercepted off Libyan coast in past week: UN migration agency

0

By XINHUA

More than 1,700 irregular migrants were intercepted off the Libyan coast over the past week, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Monday.

In the period of August 8-14, “1,788 migrants were rescued/intercepted at sea and returned to Libya,” IOM said, adding 22,045 migrants, including women and children, have been intercepted and returned to Libya so far this year.

The agency said 380 irregular migrants have died and 629 others gone missing off the Libyan coast on the Central Mediterranean route so far this year.

Libya has been suffering insecurity and chaos since the fall of late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, making the North African nation a preferred point of departure for thousands of illegal migrants wanting to cross the Mediterranean towards European shores.

Migrants who are intercepted by Libyan security forces at sea generally end up inside overcrowded reception centers across Libya, despite repeated international calls to close those centers.

Ceesay may be Obama

By Benjamin Joof

The impulse reaction of the cynics would be to dismiss the headline as “apples to oranges”, but the political journeys of Obama and Dr. Ceesay are mirroring each other by the day. The promise of hope, confidence and charisma, youthful exuberance and overly professorial add to their charm while on the campaign road for the office of the presidency.  Obama may have overcome the odds in the United States, but the political reality of the Gambia remains far removed from looks and books.

Dr. Ismaila Ceesay Citizen’s Alliance plans offers change to the chronic economic hardship the people of The Gambia endure daily, and that is the same hope Barack Obama campaigned while seeking his first mandate. CA’s manifesto spells out strategies to build housing units, uplift the citizenry by bringing economic prosperity, restructuring the NAWEC nightmare, good health system, eliminate corruption and most importantly, introduce security measures to protect lives and properties of Gambians. The hope and promise of a vision to be delivered by the Citizen Alliance sound exactly like the Obama “change” slogan.

If Ceesay walks into any ad office, creative directors can draft at least ten storyboards in one sitting.  This is because of the vision he lays out for Gambians are pragmatic and promising, therefore, his tone, character, and temperament may well be tolerated by even the uninitiated. In the same vein, Obama’s long shot care act, infrastructure plan, clean energy, climate activism and uplifting the middle class became after all what the voters wanted.  The play book of Obama’s 2008 campaign is directly in the hands of Dr. Ceesay, and he is exploiting the spoils.

“You never have a second chance to make a first impression”, that may be a bit of a cliché, but Obama rose to the ranks at the 2004 Democratic convention as key speaker and gained support, while Dr. Ceesay handled himself well on the primetime Paradise TV debate on the woes of the Coalition Government. Additionally, on the same faceoff with respected P.D.O.I.S leader Halifa Sallah, he set the stage and propelled his political growth.  He has broken the myth and stood equal with the veteran politician at the end of the debate, and that won him the hearts of many at least for the time.  Similarly, Obama too became politically matured when he rivalled Hilary Clinton for the Democratic Primaries in 2008.  What a campaign it was!

Ceesay has a gift of communication, and as tutelage of Gambian politics, he is able to simplify himself without being overly professorial.  And for the local language audience, he speaks with absolute clarity, articulate and boisterous. His spoken Wollof is “tallif” (poetry) sounding like a man who may have been breastfed by a “Ndarr” mother or raise as a member of the Diocese of Banjul Lector’s Group. Up close, his speeches and interviews may as well be renditions of Obama’s big moments.

With these beaming similarities, the effects of Obama may be brewing in the 2021 presidential campaign in The Gambia. And just maybe, on that voting December day, Ceesay’s ballot box may load enough marbles voted by friends, foes, and even the somnambulists, giving him the benefit of the doubt. “You have done what the cynics say, we couldn’t do” (Obama) words of thanks after winning the 2008 New Hampshire primary. Are we in for a surprise in Banjul? With undisclosed campaign chest to spend, the wind is gravitating towards the Dr. Ceesay and his Citizen’s Alliance.

Fabakary or Fakebba? President Barrow calls fallen MP Fakebba Colley ‘Fabakary Colley’ in condolence message

0

President Adama Barrow slipped up on Monday when he called Fakebba Colley as Fabakary Colley while offering condolences on the demise of the fallen MP.

“I extend my condolences to the family, friends and the entire Gambian nation on the passing away of Honourable Fabakary Kolley, National Assembly Member of Kiang West. I knew him as a humble and committed person to democracy and freedom. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal peace,” the president had wrote on his official Barrow PORG Facebook page.

Later on Monday, the president corrected the error on the same post after Gambians had jumped at him with one calling him ‘wicked’ for forgetting the name of the MP.

Coach-Pasamba Jow had commented: “The name of the deceased is FAKEBBA COLLEY. How can you get his name wrong?”

Police are asked to distance themselves from President Barrow’s comments

0

Police have been asked by civil society organisation Centre for Research and Policy Development to distance themselves from comments by President Adama Barrow he would ban all political activities after the December election.

“In the same vein, the CRPD has also called on the Gambia Police Force to distance itself from such reckless remarks and unlawful directives,” CRPD said while condemning the president’s comments on Monday.

It added: “We urged the Police to remain in the service of the nation following the dictates of the law and constitution. The participation of political of parties and citizenry in the political process is central to democracy and therefore any attempt to limit or control this participation would undermine Gambia’s democratic consolidation.

“Members of thePolice are expected to protect life and property and should not, in anyway, allow themselves to be an impediment to the growth of democracy in the country. It is also time for The Gambia Police Force to unequivocally conduct itself as professional, a pro-democracy rule of law institution that respects and upholds the rule of law.”

NPP says massive 217 supporters of UDP defected to the party

0

The National People’s Party chieftains have said 217 supporters of UDP in Banyaka village have defected to the party.

NPP deputy spokesman Seedy Njie told The Fatu Network the over 200 people defected to the president’s party on Sunday in Jambanjelly.

A press statement shared by Mr Njie said: “The huge announcement was made by the group’s leader, Mr. Morro Barrow in a massive political rally in Jambanjelly, Kombo South. An elated Mr. Barrow said they, in appreciation of the unprecedented development strides of His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, decided to defect to NPP and work tirelessly for his re-election in December, 2021.

“While assuring his team’s unflinching loyalty and support to President Barrow and the NPP, he commended Kebba Madi Bojang, the NPP National Youth President for his relentless efforts and major contributions which ultimately ultimately led to their defection. Mr. Barrow also asked Government to consider their road network for construction.

“In welcoming them to the NPP, the Minister for Information and Communication Infrastructure, Mr Ebrima Sillah, commended Morrow Barrow and the youth for a wise and timely decision. Sillah assured them of President Barrow’s resolve to usher in development in the area and that West Coast Region will benefit from the Government OIC Road Projects. The rally was attended by several thousand National People’s Party supporters among them NPP Executives.”

Group issues statement over President Barrow’s ‘political rhetoric and rants’

0

The Centre for Research and Policy Development has issued a statement blasting President Adama Barrow over his threat to ban all political activities after the December 4 presidential election.

President Barrow during a meeting with the Serer Community from Jeshwang Ndagen over the weekend said he will give instruction to the Inspector General of Police to deny Gambians a permit to hold political meetings.

But in a statement, civil society group Centre for Research and Policy Development said: “In recent months, President Barrow has used the State House grounds to make inconsiderate and ill-advised remarks that are not only exacerbating social tensions in the country but also threatening to undermine the democratic gains made so far. Some readers would recall that on 28th July 2021, President Barrow was streamed live by the Barrow Media Empowerment during which the President revealed how he was part of a group that buried amulets and fetishes locally called Jujus under the head of dead bodies in graveyards, in order to spiritually expedite the release of UDP leader Ousainou Darboe, Barrow’s political godfather at the time, who was languishing in jail in 2016. As the Presidential Election gets closer, President Barrow has been inviting to State House members of the various ethno-linguistic groups in the county to rally support for his bid for re-election. And most of President Barrow’s political rhetoric and rants have been directed at his former Party, United Democratic Party (UDP).

“The CRPD is dismayed and also troubled by President Barrow’s statement and therefore, calling on him to adhere to democratic principles and the rule of law. President Barrow must be reminded that among other things, he was elected on the basis of ending self-perpetuating rule and to return this country to a functioning democratic state.

“Consequently, his latest threat to restrict and regulate the democratic space after the forthcoming Presidential Election is undemocratic and against the very principle under which he was elected in 2016. President Barrow’s remarks are regrettable as they pose a risk for Gambia’s fledgling democracy. Therefore, we call on President Barrow to be mindful of his seemingly populist statements and instead focus on bridging the social divide in the country. His latest statement will undoubtedly further exacerbate the political polarization and divisions in the country, ahead of the December Presidential Election.

“As a civil society organization, the CRPD states that it is ever ready to defend, through civic actions and legal means, the democratic space in the Gambia against any threat that has the potential to undermine or compromise the Gambia’s democratic process.”

‘The game is over’: Momodou Sabally speaks as his sister Ramou cancels her love for Barrow

0

Momodou Sabally said Monday ‘the game is over’ as he reacted to her sister’s NPP decamping.

Ramou Sabally on Monday announced she was leaving NPP and joining UDP – where she would be uniting with his brother Momodou.

Her brother, Momodou Sabally wrote: “The deal is done. The game is over. It’s time for Barrow to face the realities of our local politics.

“She has left. My good sister and lifetime politician Ramou Sabally has quit the sleeping bus and joined the mighty UDP.

“She was the National PRO of the NPP’s Women’s Wing; and also Founder and Chair Lady of the nationwide women’s movement Barrow Sisters. Didn’t I tell you that we are #winning.”

NPP loses Momodou Sabally’s sister Ramou

0

NPP women wing spokeswoman Ramatoulie Sabally has announced she has left the president’s party, in an extraordinary move.

“I came today to declare relinquishing all my roles in NPP to join United Democratic Party. I have come to support His Excellency Honourable Ousainou Darboe. I am here to join your family today Monday. I thank all UDP members and Alagie Conteh and Momodou Sabally,” she said in an audio message obtained by The Fatu Network.

Ramou’s swapping NPP for UDP comes two days after she threatened to leave the president’s party.

“I will leave NPP on Monday. Even if my mother, Kaddy Jammeh Mabintou and Lamin Sabally who gave birth to me emerge from the grave cannot stop me, so let’s see who in this country can stop me [from leaving],” she had threatened.

While Ramou had said she had no issues with President Barrow who has huge respect for her, she called out Maimuna Baldeh in a sign of bad blood between her and the NPP woman leader.

“There would be a lot of talk, they will insult me and all of that. If Maimuna Baldeh is not ashamed of going out in Gambia, I will be a masquerade who would walk outside proud with my head held high.

“Let them try and insult me and what they will see. You know they are looking for Maimuna Baldeh’s naked video. The video will come out,” she said in an initial audio where she appeared speaking to someone on her decision to leave NPP.
