National People’s Party (NPP) stalwart Ahmad Gitteh has accused Lawyer Ousainou Darboe and other members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) of double standards.
According to Gitteh, the UDP leader Ousainou Darboe, Lamin Kitty Jabang and many others benefitted from state lands in Pipeline during President Jawara’s era, the same way other public officials have benefitted from state land at Bijilo.
He however agreed that the land tenure system and the laws governing land in The Gambia are not favourable to Gambians.
“The land tenure system or land act in the Gambia brought in during Jawara or Jammeh’s era is not favourable to Gambians but by law, the Minister of Lands Musa Drammeh has the powers to allocate lands to any Gambian,” Gitteh insisted.
He went on to claim that when Darboe and Sheriff Dibba acquired land at Pipeline back in those days they were among the richest Gambians.
He further reiterated that the current land act is a big problem and needs changes to remedy the situation.
