Twenty-six female entrepreneurs are currently participating in a training meant to sharpen their skills towards financial independence.
The training taking place in Fajara falls under ‘The Woman Boss’, a free business accelerator programme run by Innovate Gambia. The programme seeks to help women entrepreneurs on ways and means of developing their businesses.
Currently training the third cohort which comprises 26 women is Serign Omar Lowe the Director of Operations and L&D at Innovate Gambia and he told The Fatu Network about 66 women have benefited from the programme.
“The feedback we get from them is really good and there is a lot of result. These women still meet regularly, it’s like a sisterhood in which they find ways to help each other and they get the chance to collaborate,” Mr Lowe said.
One of the trainees, Fatima Muloshi who is the founder of Modest Modeling Agency said: “Things are getting difficult and harder and I think one need to be independent and responsible and at the end of the day you must get married as a woman and even if you dont get married, I think you need to be independent financially and to be responsible as in be able to stand out for yourself.
“So we want to change that situation, that concept of women should be housewives and all that. A woman with a strong foundation financially strong can be able to do alot for her kids and make them happy.”
Assanatou Nyangado CEO Natsa’s Kitchen said women in businesses now want to reach higher heights.
“Truth is women have been in business for so long now but now the trend is different, we are taking it ti the next level, getting it formal by getting business plans and a lot other stuffs,” she said.
