President Barrow uses executive power to pardon 57 inmates of which 16 are foreign criminals

President Adama Barrow has pardoned 57 prisoners on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

In a statement by State House, the pardoned inmates include 16 non-Gambians.

State House said: “As a long-standing custom for the President to grant prerogative of mercy on deserving convicted prisoners, His Excellency President Adama Barrow, pursuant to the powers vested in him under Section 82 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia granted pardon to fifty-seven (57) prisoners in commemoration of the Muslim feast of Eid/ul- Fitr 2021 locally known as ‘Koriteh’.

“The pardoned prisoners include: 41 Gambians, 10 Senegalese, three Conakry Guineans, two Nigerians, and one Indian. All Non-Gambians shall be deported immediately upon release.”
