Veteran politician Dr Lamin Bolonding Bojang has said if President Adama Barrow becomes corrupt and wants to overstay in power, he will rejoin politics to remove him from power.

He made these remarks during an interview with The Standard on Tuesday. “I still have supporters and I will join the band wagon and campaign for Barrow’s removal. I joined politics to contribute my quota to the development of the society,” he said.

Dr Bojang founded People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in September 1991. The party got 6% of the votes in 1992 Presidential election and got only 7 % in his native hometown of Brikama. In the run-up to 2016 Presidential Election, Bojang became head of moribund National Convention Party (NCP) but left NCP shortly before the election with many saying if he had stayed he would have been health minister. “The reason why I resigned as the leader of NCP before 2016 Presidential election was something that I will not disclose. What matters to me is hereafter, not this world,” he said.

He said if President Barrow is really a man of principal, he should serve three years as that was the agreement. “But if he is not, he can go for five or ten years. If I were him, I will go for three years because that was what we agreed on.”

Bojang said he is not interested in what President Barrow has achieved one-year in to his presidency. “What I’m interested in is the stability in the country as opposed to Jammeh. Jammeh was a danger, he was talking of civil war and Gambians cannot afford that. The urgent things that Barrow government should focus on are education, agriculture and health,” he said.
