Following the recent heavy downpour that left most, if not the entire Greater Banjul Area inundated, people have urge the government to intervene by addressing the poor drainage system. The flooding, according to people, is as a result of the poor drainage system, which makes it difficult for the rain water to flow easily.

The torrential rain left many places inaccessible and some homes flooded. Lamin Ndow, a taxi driver said the situation that occurs at Westfield when it rains heavily tells that the drainage system needs to be improved.

“Otherwise I don’t think a place such as Westfield Junction would be inundated to the extend that even vehicles find it difficult to pass. The government needs to address this,” he shared with The Fatu Network.

Another Gambian, Nyima Sidibeh said the heavy rains in the past two days is a concern as it can cause havoc if preventive measures are not put in place.

“I was so concern especially for those living in flood-prone areas. People should also avoid settling on waterways.”
